Default Local government - neah, what's up doc?

I logged on to our local government website to see if I could pay a
parking fine online. Didn't look like it, but there was a page that
said:

> Car Parking

> Name: Calvin Baylis, Car Parks Manager (admin)
> Telephone: 01903 xxx xxx
> Email: car.parks@arun.gov.uk
>
> If any of the details shown above are incorrect,
> please email the Strategy Unit. Thank you.

The email to car.parks@arun.gov.uk bounced - not found in address book.

So like a good boy, I emailed the address given for the Strategy Unit,
strategy@arun.gov.uk

You guessed already, dincha:

> User strategy (strategy@arun.gov.uk) not listed
> in public Name & Address Book

but the best part, tucked away there in the headers, is:

> Received: from DAFFY-DUCK.arun.gov.uk ([192.168.1.11])
> by pegasus.arun.gov.uk (Lotus Domino Release 5.0.8)

It's pretty normal to name computers after cartoon characters etc, but what
marks them out as a bit of a Mickey Mouse outfit is using Lotus Notes for
email.

At my old Uni - Surrey - in the ee department the printers were named
after artists, and the machines were named after sci-fi characters.

however when they got some new systems in and named one
kyle.ee.surrey.ac.uk, I thought they had named them in honour of
prominent past students, but when cartman. stan. ahd chef. appeared I
knew better.

Our current scheme is British monarchs, which gives scope for plenty of
unfunny jokes. (Charles runs headless, for instance.)

Cheers,

hehe i can think of a large company that uses lotus notes for e mail,
and uses office to run its own very poor quality apps/scripts, also to
save or transufure data the program will reformat the floppy.....acakic
doesn't even come close...
