Speaking of which, just flicking through the email version

Re BTs new no frills broadband, MacUser Say "The service is only
available for PCs." You'd think they'd say but you can just buy a router
and slap it between the phone point and your mac.

Well apparently the supplied Voyager 105 modem is _crucial_ to the
service. I can find no information on this modem but wouldn't mind
betting its USB with Win only drivers.

Yes and I bets its just BTs usual attempts to try and prevent anyone
adding more than one computer to the service, bearing in mind these
things are all to an industry 'standard' it can't be any more than
needing the user name and password, and maybe the IP but BT usually
charge extra for a fixed IP.

It's also 1Gbit/month at the basic rate. 128Mb isn't that much with the
odd s/w download. And £20 inc VAt isn't that much better than £0 plus
VAT for unlimited service on Pipex and others.

Typical BT marketting.

MacUser is - these days - essentially a PC Magazine aimed at the Mac
market to avoid missing out. It _used_ to be a Mac mag. written and run
by Mac users but not anymore. Many columnists etc. have been transferred
from other publications within the PC world and the whole outlook is
very different.

Who are these "many columnists" who are secretly PC hacks?
Tony Tyler is still spouting forth, haven't seen The Ugliest Man in The
World for a while, Paul Nesbitt and Simon Aughton have been MacUser for
as long as I can remember (which is usually about three minutes, but
hey)... I just had a look through the staff list, and can't say I
recognise too many names.

Interestingly enough, MacUser is an Apple trademark.

The editor for one. But, as for the rest, I concede defeat.

Glad they've dropped the CD in favour of more detailed reviews/articles.
They seem to have realised you can't compete with the www for news and
avoided the crap "game demo CD" route MacFormat have followed (did they
not learn from AtariFormat). Maybe a nice fashion or recipe article would
be nice though.

Regards, Steve.

Dunno. And Dennis Publishing must be using it with permission, since it
says on the (whatever it's called - credits?) page, "'Macintosh, 'Mac',
and 'MacUser' are the trademarks of Apple Computer Inc."

Doesn't that look like something that will be quietly dropped, just like
most embarrassments?

He ought to try upgrading to MultiFinder.
(Obscure System 6 joke.)
