Default OS 9.2. Partition Problem

Repartitioned my HD with a partition which boots with OS 9.2 since I have SW
which won't launch using Classic. The 9.2. System was copied from a backup
on an external drive. I don't have any OS 9 install discs anymore that I'm
aware of. When I restart with the 9.2 disk as the startup, I see the
desktop, but when I click on any of the icons or the menu, nothing happens
whatsoever- any ideas, folks? Classic uses the 9.2 system fine from 10.4,
and I've rebuilt the desktop several times, so I think the system is OK. I
am using a two button mouse - would that have anything to do with it? Apple
site doesn't seem to show anything on this problem.

Interesting.

Does the mouse have software that will allow it to operate with OS 9?
Under the old operating systems it wa sa single-button mouse for
everything and not all 2-button mice would be recognized by the OS,
and then only is there were installed drivers if memory serves me
correctly.

I still run a system with OS 9.2.2 but still have a single button
mouse I am nursing along.

I'd get hold of a real disc. I'd be uncomfortable with a drag-copy.

Ahh - the long lost art of troubleshooting OS 9 ... sounds like an
extension conflict. Try this:

Reboot holding the shift key down (Extensions Disabled). Does anything
work?
If so, then boot with the space key down - that will kick the Extensions
Manager in before the OS loads.
Enable some, continue, check. If it works, redo with more enabled.
Once you track a troublesome extension down, either keep if off, or
trash its preferences (System Folder/Preferences) and try again.

Hope that helps

There is a default extension set, something like "Mac OS All". These
are all extensions that come with the OS and so rather than simply
enabling some extensions personally I would try it with the "Mac OS
All" ones at this stage.

Maybe. You SHOULD be able to drag a system folder (if it was originally
configured to work with the Mac in question), but yes, if it were me,
I'd prefer a fresh install.

I've done what he's doing. I have partitioned my iMac HD so I can
reboot OS 9 from the second partition. Mostly just use it for older OS
9 games (Jack 4, Nanosaur, Bugdom, etc).

Oooh - I hate it when someone gives better advice than me! I did think
of that after I hit the 'Post' button ... (that's my excuse, nd I'm
sticking to it

OK Ray - Do what I said, then (in the middle) do what Patrick said, then
continue with what I said:

That happens to me a lot

I'm always posting and then realising that "I should have written..."
