| Suppose that my on-line store, mystore.com, sell hats and gloves. The company that hosts my site has assigned the e-mail address (and user name) mystore@mystore.com to this account. But they will forward mail addressed to anynamewhatsoever@mystore.com; in other words, they allow me to use an unlimited number of e-mail aliases. That way, a person who wants to enquire about a hat can e-mail hats@mystore.com and a person who is interested in gloves can e-mail gloves@mystore.com. Filters in "Mail" will sort the messages into the appropriate mailboxes for my convenience. The problem is that I don't seem to be able to set up an alias mail account in "Mail" so that I can answer using the appropriate return address. In MS Entourage I can have an account named "hats" which uses the pop and smtp services at mystore.com's server, but that sends (or appears to send) e-mail from "hats@mystore.com;" the same is true of gloves. How do I do this in Apple's "Mail" program? When I try to set up such an account I get an error message that says "The account 'mystore' already has this hostname and username." An example of what I do with Entourage is the e-mail address in my sig. It is a valid address, though it is only an alias. You can look at it, and based on what I said above, figure out what my web-host-assigned username and e-mail address are. But when someone replies to one of my Usenet posts with the address below, Entourage permits me to answer them using that address. TIA! Davoud -- usenet *at* davidillig dawt com |

In the Accounts window, in the Email Address text edit field, enter all the accounts for that hostname and username combination, separated by commas--for example: star@sky.net, nova@sky.net, supernova@sky.net, blackhole@sky.net -- Stop Mad Cowboy Disease: Vote for John Kerry. |

See the other responses. Michelle took a novel approach. She said that she found this "in Mail's Help, under the heading of 'Adding multiple email addresses to the same account' in the 'Setting up Mail' section."
