| Pardon for posting here, but I am just getting into the Mac and... Is there a tool I can use which will create a fresh desktop, invoke three Mac programs, and then place the program windows in specific locations? I am trying to simplify a procedure so that it looks exactly the same every time a user starts it. or point me to the appropriate special group or site? Many Thanks! j |

When do you want this to happen? At start-up? At a time of your own choosing? > and then place the program windows in specific locations? You may be able to do this with Applescript, but it will depend on the applications you're launching. > I am trying to simplify a procedure so that it looks exactly the same every time > a user starts it. Why? Do they get confused easily? You could look at some of the programs here: <http://www.versiontracker.com/php/s...action=search&s tr=workspace&srchArea=macosx%7Cosx&x=0&y=0> They may do what you want. |

It means I want to replace whatever is on the desktop with a clean desktop, even if something is active, and be able to restore the desktop to its original configuration when done with my task. I will look into creating a special User with specific rights and just switch to the new User. > There are numerous ways to auto-start programs. When do you want this > to happen? At start-up? I've done quite a bit already with BASH and Otto but not enough AppleScript yet. I'll be studying it over the holiday. >> I am trying to simplify a procedure so that it looks exactly the same >> every time >> a user starts it. > > Why? Do they get confused easily? Uh, why yes they do. Are you surprised? > You could look at some of the programs here: > <http://www.versiontracker.com/php/s...action=search&s > tr=workspace&srchArea=macosx%7Cosx&x=0&y=0> Thank you for that! Happy Holidays. |
