View Full Version : Can't delete postgresql user account

I installed postgresql from a .dmg from some website (druware?) then
decided I didn't like it and wanted to build from source.

The problem is that at the login screen, it still shows a postgresql
user like they have an account on my machine. But in
Preferences->Accounts, it's not listed there.

This is more an annoyance than anything else, but I'd really like to
clean out that old account created by the canned postgresql
installation.

Any ideas?

Netinfo Manager scares me to death. I'd rather change things directly
than mess with it if at all possible. Perhaps I should read
<http://www.apple.com/server/pdfs/UnderstandingUsingNetInfo.pdf> which
is a 1.9 Mb file. It seems I have a lot to learn.

The command line (niutil) is even scarier than the GUI. Anyway,
deleting an existing user/group is doable.

I typed niutil in terminal as an ordinary user. A bunch of config stuff
appeared. I then manned it. I understand that I'll have to read the
large pdf I just downloaded if I decide to fool with it. I really don't
need to use Netinfo Manager. Did I run as root for thirty minutes with
it once? It bothers me that I can't play with computer fire. I'm pretty
good with campfires.
