View Full Version : Next Window Keystroke in ADOBE Prods??

Anyone know of a way to get a 'Next Window' keystroke within Adobe Apps?
The next window keystroke is almost universal. Cmd-\ or Cmd-`. Even got
something to "work" in Word. Well, it usually works.
HIDE requires CONTROL-Cmd-H in PS, but haven't been able to Cycle
windows. Can't use a 3rd-party app (like pre-X QuickKeys!)
Any ideas?

Try CMD-~ (the tilde key above the tab key).

This is no big thing, but Mr. Dahl's question was aimed at Adobe users,
one of which I assume you are not.
Didn't Mr. Dahl illustrate with his first sentence that he is familiar
with CMD~? Here is a re-phrasing of Mr. Dahl's first sentence: "I know
about the key combination CMD-~ (the tilde key above the tab key), but
this key combination does *not* work in Adobe Creative Suite."
Thus the question is "Since CMD-~ (the tilde key above the tab key)
does *not* work in Adobe Creative Suite, does anyone here know of a key
combination that *does* work?"
I repeat, this is no big thing.

Actually I am, but I must admit that I do not use (or have the
need) for such a shortcut, but I did read the letter of the
Month on page 10 in the Layers Magazine from July/August 2006,
where Command-~ seems to be working at least in Illustrator.

Not as I read it.

What about CMD-> then? (the key just to the right of the left
shift key).

I must apologize. It does work in Illustrator (though it didn't always)
but it doesn't work in Photoshop. Go figure.

Over the period (.) on a US keyboard. The < is over the comma.

Sorry. I'm on a Danish keyboard where > and < is to the right
of the left shift key. I thought that is was the same place on
a US.

Aren't you about a year late? I'd have thought that the 100-year
anniversary of the separation of Sweden and Norway in 1905 would have
been the obvious time for a campaign to undo it, if that was the intent.
:-)
(Ducks, because I have no idea about what possible sensitivities there
might be on the issue. I should be embarassed to admit that it was only
a few months ago that I first became aware of that event.)

Wow! I am impressed.

There is no discernible pressure towards undoing the separation of 1905,
but I think we are possibly all better neighbors than we have ever been.
So we are more united in our small differences, I guess. (And in fact I
don't know where the Swedish keyboard has put < and >, and I have
removed Swedish from my System and can't check.)

No sweat! The Swedes don't make a fuss about it, the Norwegians think
it's a great thing, while the Danes wonder what it's all about. :-) But
we all unite versus common "enemies" or external pressure.
We are all rather good friends actually, although of course both
Norwegians and Danes tend to see the Swedes as rather supercilious and
sporting a good-sized big brother complex. They on their part I think
see us (Norskies) as simple, almost simpletons, touchingly naive,
somewhat self-serving fishermen and disgustingly petroleum nouveau
riche, and the Danes as beer-drinking pigfarmers and tough bargainers.
The Danes feel cultural and continental (I think?) and like the
Norwegians much as you tolerate a smaller brother, while we love them
with all our heart, knowing we can never become quite as sophisticated
as our older, urban cousin.
And all in good spirits - mostly. ;-)

It's all fun and games until one King lopps off the other King's head,
again, I suppose. Gotta love Fairhair's approach, though, to uniting
all of Norway under one king (him). Direct and un-subtle.

What a simple solution. It DOES work in PShop. Don't know about
Illustrator or Indesign yet.
For the record- a Cmd-~ DOES work now, but I had learned Cmd-` from
using Word. I'm sure it didn't work way back when, but Cmd-` did.

You guys amaze me with your knowledge of old Nordic historical arcana.

Well, he was quite a tactician, wasn't he? At least if Snorri is to be
believed. The whole "invite your rivals to a sit-down so you can talk
it over, post your men at the doors, step out of the longhouse, and burn
the place down" thing - it certainly has a refreshing...honesty to it.
I can imagine him, when that was all done, saying "And, was there anybody
ELSE who doesn't want me to be the King?"

Same thing Muhammad Ali did with the Mameluks in Egypt in the 1830's (I
think). Invited them for a banquet, then let them all go home through a
narrow passage with gates at either end - and then shut the gates and
slaughtered them. Brutal and messy, and eminently sensible, politically
speaking.

A bit like the Massacre of Glencoe in Scotland, too, where the
hospitality of the McDonald clan ended with 38 of them being murdered
(on government orders) by the Campbells, whom they had invited into
their houses to stay for a few days to shelter from the highland winter.
