I have a family eMac running Tiger. I'm thinking of getting a cheap second
older Mac for my two kids to play on. I know someone locally who is
giving away some complete Macs that were new in 1996-1999. I guess
these would run System 7 Is it possible to network something this old
with my current Mac so I can share files between them? If not I guess
I'll have to get a USB floppy drive for the eMac to do that.

How often and how big are the files you want to share?

I have a mac 9600 from that era currently running mac os 8.6 It's
hooked to my LAN which contains a Lintel box running SUSE 10.1, my DUAL
G4 Mac running Panther, and a Wintel box running XP home. I can swap
files over the network thru the router with no problems. If you have
an ethernet card in it then this is the way to go. Failing that then
theres always a null modem serial cable with terminal software to
transfer files....slow but quicker than floppies.
