You read the register... So you know that the reason Apple used gcc for
the spec test was that they HAD TO, not to "eliminate variables" (and if
they were trying to eliminate variables, they would of used linux on the
g5 instead of macos x).

The g5 has very respectable performance, no need to condone shady
tactics by Apple and lower yourself to Steve Jobs level (Steve Jobs, who
screwed Saint Woz on a Atari game)

APPLE HAD TO USE GCC FOR THE G5!! It is REQUIRED!

Apple claims the G5 will run G4 binares with no modifications, "natively";
if so they did not "have to" use a new compiler: any extant G4 compiler
would do.

They used the new build for the speed it gave them.
