Slow typing speeds can result if there are too many applications open at the
same time, taxing virtual memory. The cure is to either add more real memory
or too cut down the number of concurrent applications.

Another thing is Norton Anti-Virus. If you install that it just screws
with Internet apps for some reason. I had the same one and the same
problems - I lost Norton and everything was normal again.
