I think you might want to get 9.2.2, but that's not essential.

For CD burning, it's hard to beat Roxio's Toast.

For hardware, there's a nice LaCie CD-RW for about $150 from Apple's own
store or many another company (OtherWorldComputing and so on.) It's a 52X
reader and burner, 40X burner for rewritables, and FireWire. Burns an
audio CD in about three minutes. Pretty good!

Of course, there are "superdrives" out there for about $180 if you have
a G4. I don't, so I can't swap out my CD/DVD reader for one. Too bad.
You _do_ have a G4, so you might have a look at Other World Computing.

Err...why can't you swap out your combo drive for a superdrive?
