Hi. I just installed internet explorer on my Mac OS9 laptop, and now,
every time I try to open it I get a message that an error of type 3
occurred. Any idea how to fix this?

First, try increasing the memory allocation to Internet Explorer. Quit
Internet Explorer, then locate the Internet Explorer application icon.
Select it, then go to File -> Get Info -> Memory. Set the Preferred size to
25000K, then close the window.

I would then try testing the Internet Preferences file for
corruption. Go to Macintosh HD:System Folder:Preferences, and move the file
called "Internet Preferences" to the Desktop. Try re-launching Internet
Explorer and see if that makes a difference. If it helps, delete the file.
If it still crashes, you can move it back and replace if asked.

If that doesn't help, try quitting Internet Explorer and moving the Explorer
Folder (Macintosh HD:System Folder:Preferences:Explorer) to the Desktop.
Re-launch Internet Explorer and see if it helps. If so, you can move your
favorites back by dragging the Favorites.html file from the Desktop
"Explorer" folder to the new one in the Preferences folder.

If that doesn't help, see the Apple Knowledge Base articles:
