View Full Version : Can't click and open links

Hi. Using IE 5.2.2 for Mac. Been running fine, but suddenly, every
time I click any link, I get a contextual menu that offers these
options: Internet Explorer Help, Open Link in New Window, Download
Link to Disk, Copy Link to Clipboard and add Link to Favorites. But I
cannot actually click and activate the link, even using different key
combos. Seems like I must have switched on some feature in IE, because
I am not having any trouble in other programs or my other browser.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

From your description, your problem sounds like you may have a sticky
"control" key. Control+clicking on a Mac will activate contextual menus.

Or if you have a third party mouse, you may have activated a feature that
swaps buttons or has assigned the "control" key to your left button. Check
your System Preferences for any additional software control for your mouse.

If you've verified that none of your keys are sticking and no third party
software is responsible then you may have a damaged keyboard where the
"control" button is always down (active).

Hope this helps! bill

I had the same problem, getting the contexual menu whenever I clicked
on any link in IE (but not anywhere else). I was able to resolve it by
restarting the machine. After the restart, Internet Explorer worked
with the links correctly.

Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for your reply. It worked! Wow, I'm stunned and
embarrassed. The trick I always try first for getting a Windows PC to
play nicer was the last thing I thought of doing for my Mac. Guess
that comes from the comparitive stability of the OS. Thanks!
