Since I upgraded to Mac OS 9.2.2 Word 98 crashes with error messages
Type 1, 4, or 10 . Can anybody out there help me?

Have you downloaded an applied the updaters from

You may also want to consider downgrading to OS 9.1 - 9.2.2 is only
really necessary if you're also using OS X.

the type of errors you're getting bothers me a bit:

A Type 1 error is a bus error -the processor is trying to access
memory that doesn't exist. This is sometimes caused by programmers
who use shortcuts that take advantage of existing hardware or OS
features, but that no longer work when the hardware or system
software changes. That's why there are updates to Office 98/01 for
OS9

A Type 4 error is a divide by zero error - this shouldn't just pop
up - again it sounds like a need to upgrade the Office suite.

IIRC, a Type 10 error is a pre-powerPC error (i.e., failure to find
an instruction in the branch lookup table). Is your Mac a 680x0
version?

If you've already applied all the updaters, you may want to take a
look at TechTool or other diagnostic software to make sure your
machine is running OK.

I have updated Word 98 and I am now getting error type3

Well, we're making progress...

Type 3 is an illegal instruction error. This could be caused by an
incomplete update, a corrupted file or perhaps even a memory error.

Take a look at this thread - you've already done the updaters, but
follow the other steps, too:

As always with OS8/9, there's also the possibilty of extension
conflicts - you should check that out too.

Hi Mike,

Try raising Word's Preferred memory. Navigate to the Word icon in the
Finder and do a Get Info (Cmd>i). Click on the memory tab and raise Word's
Preferred memory by 10000K. Leave the Minimum memory setting at the
default.

As for iTunes ... If it works in OS 9.2.2, I can't see why it wouldn't work
in OS 9.1 but you should be able to check the Apple website to be sure.

Error 10 (also 9) from an old compilation:

ID=09 and ID=10 Line 1010 & 1111 Trap
There are many routines in the Macintosh ROM that can be called by placing
instructions in a program that aren't in the 68000's vocabulary. When the
68000 encounters such an instruction, it looks it up in the instruction
table. This table gives the location of routines paired with each
instruction. If it finds an entry in the table for the instruction, it
branches to the routine. If there's no entry for the instruction, you see
one of these errors.

Yep, that's the one - I didn't have the references handy to look it
