Hi. I know that this is probably an OLD question,, BUT: I have Word
6.0.1..... That's it!!! nothing else. All I want to do is upgrade that
for Mac OS10.x.x.x capable, without buying all of the other krap!!! Is
it possible? Thankz, Jay.

Hi Jay:
Phillip is correct, provided you accept that if you upgrade only Word, many
other things you will find in a Word document from a modern version of word
will not work.
Microsoft Office is a very interconnected set of applications: you will get
a bit frustrated with various things "not working" or "not displaying" or
"not possible".
Microsoft Office X should be available at a deep discount soon: I would
recommend you buy the whole thing. You do not have to "use" the other bits,
but things won't work properly if they're not there :-)
The problem you have is that the Word Document file format changed between
Word 6 and Word 98. The old version won;t read the latest format. The
special converter (which is actually a program) available on the PC to get
around this is not available on the Mac.
Cheers

But if you buy and install Office2001 on OS 9 it will convert all your
6.0.1. Files.
I know that is additional expense. But should work around OfficeX's not
being able to read 6.0.1 files.
