Hi Amy:

Your Tools Menu has got munged. Go into Tools>Customise, choose the Tools
menu and click RESET.

Cheers

Hi John,
The problem is, there is no reset button for the Tools menu.
I can go to View>Toolbars>Customize to bring up Customize. From there
I have a reset button for the toolbars, but no reset button under the
Commands tab, (and the Commands is where I find things like the View
and Tools menus). I've tried to reset all my toolbars, no luck. I
also can't add commands to existing toolbars, I have to create a new
custom toolbar if I want to add to it.
Maybe I should just bite the bullet and throw away my preferences, eh?
Thanks,
Amy

Hi Amy,

If you selected Menu Bar (on the Toolbars tab) and clicked Reset, then you
did it correctly. If that didn't fix the problem then, yes, you will have
to test your preferences. You don't have to trash them, however,
until/unless they prove to be the culprit.

With Word closed, *rename* your Word Settings (8) file and then reopen Word
to force it to create a new Settings file. If that fixes the problem, then
you will have to trash the old file. If you've changed a lot of
preferences, just take screen shots of all the preference panes before
starting this procedure in order to make it easier to reset them later.

I think that will do it, but if not, try renaming your Normal template (same
type of procedure). If you have customizations in Normal that you don't
want to lose, you can copy them from the old Normal to the new Normal using
Organizer.

Hope this helps.

Thank you Beth!
That worked.
(My problem is, I have just enough knowledge of Word to be dangerous) :-)
