Hi Florian:

A re-installtion does nothing unless you first remove the old files.

In this case, it sounds like bad disk permissions. Run Disk Tool and Repair
permissions.

Word cannot write to the disk.

If you are on a network, there is a server bug that makes this so, and we do
not have a cure for it. If your laptop is set to power down its hard disk,
check that the disk is powering up again properly.

In Word, go to Word>Preferences>Save and enable Always create backup copy.
This will not cure the problem, but it makes it happen much less often.

Hope this helps

Thank you very much for helping me!

There are just some open questions remaining for me.

1. I already did a re-installation of the whole Office
package. I used your article posted on:

http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/WordMac/OfficeXCompleteRe-Install.htm

But I kept my word docs on my hard disk. I cant remove them
because some of
them are concerning my master thesis which I'm about to write. But I
re-installed word exactly as you described.

2. Can I run disk tool and the repair permission without any
danger for my
hard disk? I've got a lot of stuff on my hard disk which I
dont want to loose like holiday pictures and so on...

3. What is so funny is the fact, that this problem persisted after I
reinstalled the whole OSX.2.6! I really "cleaned" my computer from
everything! Do you think it could be also a hardware-problem?
Because Word ran without any problems for a year now (except that it never
could find my german spelling dictionary to update it...)

(by the way, I'm not in network.)

John, I'm really very greatful for your answer!

Sincerely

Florian Lüthy
