As noted below, the newly released Office v.X Professional now includes
Virtual PC 6.1 with Win XP Pro and Exchange added to Entourage. Have any
changes been made to Word and Exce?

By the way, the Amazon web site lists Office:mac Student and Teacher edition
for $100. As far as I could tell, they don't ask for student and teacher
verification.

Correct.

What the Professional Edition includes is Virtual PC with Windows XP along
with the standard edition Office X fully updated to 10.1.4, so changes to
the Office applications (Word and Excel) weren't made for the new editions
but instead for the individual free updates.

10.1.4 includes some minor bug fixes for Word and Excel, but no significant
changes. Nearly all of the improvements are for Entourage and compatibility
with Exchange.

That's a good deal! However, be aware that the license only allows use by a
qualified educational user.

My wife and I are brand new Mac users and we both will be using Office
v.X, Hers arrived 4 weeks ago and mine will arive with with my Mac in
a few weeks.
1) Do I need to pay upgrade to the latest version? I couldn't find a
reference to this situation.
2) Is there a path to the Pro version from standard other than paying
for a full upgrade? Is there a program to pay the difference between
the two versions?

Thanks -- Jeff

Office X is the latest version - there's no upgrade to pay for. There are
two updates present on the Microsoft site, but those are free.

No. You can't upgrade to Office X Professional from Office X Standard.
However, Office X Professional is the same as Office X Standard except that
it comes with a copy of Virtual PC. It'd be easier and more cost-effective
for you to just buy a copy of Microsoft Virtual PC 6.1.
