Any other ideas?
I have this same problem. I installed the wrong Word X CD on a Mac. I now
have the proper Volume License CD and cannot install it properly....the old
registration & product Id always shows up.

I have deleted the hidden officepid file
I deleted the users/username/library/preferences/microsfot/office settings
(10) file
I used the remove office tool
I reinstalled using the Volume license CD.
9 times out of 10 time trying, I was never prompted for the CD key. It
would ask for name & company information & then pull up a screen that says
"your product id is xxxxx" and xxxxx is the old copy of Word X.
One time out of the 10 tries, I was prompted to put in the CD key again.
Unfortunately - the Volume License CD I have has a note that says "..the
user will be asked to enter a CD Key in the "Personal Information and CD Key
screen". Please ignore the request to enter a CD Key as this is not
required for Volume Licensing media" This one time when I actually had a
chance to enter the CD key again, I tried to bypass according to the note by
not entering any CD key but the installation wouldn't continue without it.

I am not trying to get around licensing. I ordered media for Word X and two
additional (paper) licenses. The media I ordered was regular single-user
Word X. Little did I know that I should have ordered volume media. I
installed Word X using the Single-user media CD on three machines -- what
I'm legally entitled to. But those three machines can't run the software at
the same time - if you open a second copy, it says someone has the same copy
open.

How can I completely wipe all references to the old Word off the mac????

thanks for any & all help.

Hi

Try deleting all of the Microsoft Office plist files in the Preferences
folder, and then delete the entire Microsoft folder in the same Preferences
folder.

If that doesn't work, use Finder's search feature to see if there are any
hidden files that belong to Microsoft Office. For some reason unknown to me
my Mac hid an entire copy of Office and once I deleted all those files
everything was fine. It only happened once, so I don't think it's usual, but
it happened.
