I see. Are you using a firewal on you Mac ??? It could be related (it
should at least induce delays as you start the application).

It could be worth doing some cleanup on your hard drive. Make sure every
thing is up to date (system and Office), repair permissions through
DiskUtility (under 10.2.6), delete the
~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Carbon Registration Database file (~/
stand for the location of your user folder) and reboot. The first launch
of an Office app will take a little longer but the pref file I asked you
to delete can get corrupted and induce slowdowns in amny operations.

Also check your hard drive for damage (Norton, DiskWarrior.....).

Nice :-))) This file seems to need a little clean up from time to time.
Since it does not contain any personalization and since it is
automatically re-created.....
