Well the help files say go to control panel - change/install software -
uninstall Windows XP...

All I see are about 40 service packs & the VPC 'additions' so I'm at a
loss as to how to proceed - basically I want to make sure MS servers
have me 'unregistered' so I can reinstall on another machine...

The 'help' file is of no help...
Any suggestions appreciated...

Unfortunately, there is no way to "unregister" your copy
of XP on Microsoft's activation key servers. You will have
to phone them when the time comes to explain to the client
service rep that you are moving the installation from one
PC to the other. I would imagine that unless your copy of
XP has been reactivated many times in a short period, they
will issue you a new activation key without issue. (I
don't what would happen if they didn't believe you.)

Word of advice on the call to Microsoft's activation
centre: When you have to give them the ~54 digit product
number that comes up on your screen, use the phone keypad
to enter the digits. Otherwise, you'll waste a lot of time
while the computer verifies what you said.
