a)
Put internet sharing on on the PC (depends on what os you have on the
PC)
Set the mac to dhcp

b)
Get an ADSL router

a) is the cheap way
b) is the hassle free way

the only involvement the mac has in the process is getting an address
from dhcp from the PC and then getting the data across the internet.

If your ethernet connection is set to dhcp, ensure its getting an
address from the PC

The address is shown in the network control panel - if it starts with
169.x.x.x then the PC isn't giving it an address or it isn't connected
(which is unlikely as you are already sharing files).

The rest of the job is up to the PC and I am not going as my new
resolution is to only help with PCs for money :)

If you look in your start bar at help (or press F3 in explorer), look
for 'internet connection sharing'. Microsoft's help is pretty good
(absolutely excelent compared to mac help - although it does need to
be).
