I'm sitting here feeling that I have made a small contribution to the
commonwealth of uk.comp.sys.mac readers, writers, and lurkers.
Thanks for the responses to my original suggestion on the subject of a
welcome message.

Hmm, yes, ICWUM.
I'm trying to imagine us[1] all, in a freezing squat somewhere, fighting
over a can of tomatoes - or a single phone line. Would we[1] retain a sense
of community, or would isms and stupidity raise their inevitable heads?
[1] Forgive my presumption.

I suppose that is one of the wonders of usenet. In, let me think, 10
years of inhabiting it I have only had two episodes of unpleasantness of
the net caused by unpleasantness on it.
As someone in another froup puts it on his .sig:
It's only usenet, noone dies.

Oh mi gawd!
Anyway, I didn't mean to imply that I'd written the whole thing,
single-handed, carving words into blocks of oolitic limestone with a 4B
pencil. just that I was happy that I'd had a part to play.
All together now: "Row, row, row the boat...."
