Seem to be getting a spate of people with problems after getting cheapo
no-name PC133 RAM. Don't do it. Get Kingston, Crucial or someone you've
heard of.....
Personally I like Kingston. The RAM boxes are cute......

I purchased a _cheapo_ and it failed to work in two G4s but it was
recognised by a PC OK. The Crucial RAM was absolutely no problem.

I am not as limber as I once was and the iMac's
(Flat Screen) legendary capacity to run for months
without a hard restart is not without its
problems. I also have an old fashioned fear of
leaving anything with a transformer constantly on
- in the currect configuration - a Belkin USB hub.
Then I found this cute device that, as the blurb
says, and I quote, 'As soon as one device* with a
wattage of at least 8W (adjustable up to 80W) is
switched on, the slave sockets on the strip are
supplied with power. The surge arrester protects
your equipment from fluctuations in the power
supply, indirect lightning strikes, etc.'
* - Obviously plugged into the Master Socket
So now I don't have to grovel under the desk. So
far so good.
What is strange is that when I put the iMac to
sleep (from the Apple Menu), it switches
everything off, but then wakes up again after a
few seconds. If I send it off to sleep again it
stays asleep and can be awakened to full
functionality - including the USB Hub.
So presumably, when the iMac is asleep it is
drawing minimal power - no screen, no HD to drive
and then when it wakes up the power demand
increases. Does anyone know what these power
consumption levels are? Just roughly as the
settings on the socket strip are unmarked between
8W and 80W.
Any speculations as to why it needs to go through
two sleep cycles to shut down the strip properly?
Any thoughts, including light-hearted abuse, would
be welcomed :-).
For the technically competent, but meaningless to me:-
Electrical ratings 230VAC, 10 Amp, 50 Hz
Power Consumption <1W
Switch Level (adjustable) 8-80W
Surge Protection
Rating L-N
Max. Energy 275 Joules, Uoc=6kV Up=650 V
Max Load
All Outlets 2300W
Master Outlet 500W

No idea. Have you got a Mac ROM? If so, why not find a mate with a PC and a
spare PCI slt? Much less likely to screw the card.....

It's probably waking up after the first little sleep because there have
been USB events to handle (USB peripherals disappearing on poweroff).
