So, It's a UMAX USB Scanner, an Astra 5450. Supposedly TWAIN compliant.
I plug it into the TiBook, running 10.2.6, and nothing happens. Apple
System Profiler sees it on the USB bus, but none of the useful
applications see it. (Image Capture, GKON, etc)
I had a look at www.twain.org - there's some new stuff available for OS
X, but I couldn't determine whether that was an SDK for writing twain
drivers, or actually running twain hardware. Either way, it wants to
live in /System/Library/Frameworks but there's already a Twain.framework
and I can't modify it in any way because, well, the Frameworks Folder
Can't be Modified. Or so it tells me. Yes.
According to Apple, the Scanner vendor should supply an updated TWAIN
DSN or something, but there's nothing at all from UMAX to download for
OS X.
Anyone got any bright ideas to get my scanner working? Preferably so it
uses the built-in tranny adapter as well?
Cheers,
James
