View Full Version : Staring a Wallstreet from CD

Am I missing something here? I want to start my Wallstreet from CD so I can
run Drive 10, but everything I have tried doesn't seem to work. I have
tried starting with the "C" key pressed and I tried selecting the Drive 10
CD as the startup disk. No luck?
Is is just my machine or is there some secret that has eluded me?

What CD are you trying to boot? Is it a bootable CD? Is it the Drive 10 CD?
Try booting it on another Mac and see if that works.
My Wall Street boots from Mac OS CD's. Haven't tried any other CD's.
Good luck,

The Drive 10 CD will boot my B&W G3 just fine. I have tried several ofther
CD's that are know are bootable with the same result.

Assuming the CD is fine (and is a bootable CD), it should work. Have you
tried another CD to see if it works. If it does, that suggests the CD that
isn't working is bad. Of course, remember also that you have to to press and
hold "C" until the CD drive actually starts up.

I also have this problem on my Wallstreet II since accidentaly deleted
my sbin folder and had to reinstall OS X 10.2.5.
Symptoms: I can't boot from known good CD with "C" pressed down nor if I
choose it as the start system, but I can boot if I press
opt-cmd-shift-backspace.
I also can't boot into Open Firmware with opt-cmd-O-F,
Single mode with cmd-S works fine, so at least I can run fsck.
What can I do to really reset my powerbook, when I can't get to open
firmware and write "reset-all"?

when I can't boot with the X on the hdisk, and get get to reboot with the
Xcd that does not have a startup disk panel, I use the 9.2 startup disk,
then in controls panels choose X on the h drive

OK, but I can't boot from any CD, unless I press
opt-cmd-shift-backspace. So it's *not* what CD I'm using, it's some kind
of hardware setting that have got stuck and I need to get it reset, so
that my WallstreetII can start up from cd by pressing "c" and go into
open firmware by holding opt-cmd-O-F. Are there any alternativew ways to
get into Open Firmware?

Are you sure that the Wallstreet II even does Open Firmware? I know
that the Wallstreet I does NOT and the main difference between WSI & II
is that the WSII has a lower bus speed (66MHz vs 83MHz).
I thought Open Firmware didn't start until the "New World" models or
whatever they are called.

Yes, I'm sure. I used to do it all the time for different reasons. All
the way from 9.2.2 trough 10.2.x til 10.2.5 now. There are more
differences between WSI and WSII than what you thought. For one thing
it's not slower even with the slower bus.
