Hi

Have an LC III running System 7.1 that my grandmother uses. We have a
Stylewriter 1200 hooked up to it and she uses this setup to do her word
processing/etc. It works just fine with her with Word 5.1, Excel, etc.

However, her (original!) hard drive died a few weeks ago. I went to debug
and could redo a 7.1 startup hard drive but no longer have the drivers for
the printer and so it wont work. The 'stylewriter' 7.1 chooser extension
doesnt work with this machine. I saw on the web in various places that the
Color SW 1500 drivers are backwards compatible - however theyre also really
large and dont fit on a disk.

Does someone have the disk that came with a stylewriter 1200 that has the
installer/extension on it? I'd like to just send her the disk so she can
do the install herself. I could accept a disk image via email, etc. I
havent been able to find these on the apple website (just the SW 1500
drivers).

thanks,
scott

Good to hear about an old Mac put to good use ;)

Try http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=30153 - it's available as
a 3 part download (all the bits should fit on 3 800k disks easily: the LC
III should have a 'superdrive' 1.4 Mb floppy drive anyway ...)

From
http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/Eng
lish-North_American/Macintosh/Printing/StyleWriter/

Color_SW_1500_2.2.1-3of3.sea.bin 15-Mar-2002 17:41 622k

Copy these to grandma's HD, and use Stuffit (if you don't have a copy for
7.1, try http://www.jagshouse.com/classicsoftware.html) to combine and
unstuff into a single file/disk image/directory that should install the
driver!

good luck

Sorry for delay, I got a few personal replies and didnt come back here to
look for other followups.

Thanks for the link to the disk-split SW1500 files. Hadnt seen those.

A quesiton about backward compatibility and Stylewriter 1200.. I am pretty
sure her LCIII is still only using 7.1 - will there be any problem using a
CSW 1500 driver that was 'made' for a later OS?

Also - I found a stylewriter 1200 driver (v2.1) in a 7.5.2 install pack -
and its only like 500KB - can I just copy that into her sys folder or will
it expect a 'sys 7.1 version'? I couldnt find an archive of OS/version
history for the SW 1200.

I have used this driver on 8.6, so I know its forward-compatible ;-)

thanks all.

I would bet it would work. All the installer adds is the fonts and the
watermarked templates.

If not, I have the original drivers on floppies. (We owned several.) I'd
gladly send them to you just to avoid having to throw them in the trash.
