It's ancient and autoposted... Better off checking the
comp.databases.filemaker
FAQ at http://heifer.ucc.usyd.edu.au/cdf_faq/

Exactly. I've been trying to get Martin to pull this
autopost for the last three years.

Hi all,

I tried to get rid of this autopost myself - but the senders did not
react on my requests after I could not log in any longer. The
auto termination date of this posting is long gone by, but they still
continue to send it.

FMP6 or whatever FMP7 will be called is far from FMP3 - but comparing to
other recent FMP FAQs at least there's still a little bit of useful
grains to pick from this ancient FAQs. I hope the harm is not too big on
anyones net load...

You've beem trying to contact me? The university address is gone, as
well as the former name 'th-darmstadt', now named 'tu-darmstadt'.
However, the later address traut[at]gmx.net should have been known in the
FMP forums.

Kind regards
Martin

It's annoying when that happens...

There's also the one at http://heifer.ucc.usyd.edu.au/cdf_faq/
(which borrows with attribution some of this FAQ) - which is
for comp.databases.filemaker

Nah, not too big, just a little long in the tooth ;-)

Ah. Okay, at least you've tried. Any chance of trying various
non-automatic ways, e.g. emailing the newsmaster ?

>You've beem trying to contact me?

I exaggerated: I did try in 2000 (so my email log tells me) and
I have tried a few times over the years, but it wasn't a continuous
campagne, just something I did occasionally. Glad to know you're
still around.

newsmaster? No, I don't think, I tried this one - maybe that's an idea.

Thanks ;-)

BTW: I do some training on FMP6, but personally I still stick to FMP4.1
- my old hardware does not support much better. However, the new iBook
12" could be an offer that is just too interesting to miss. However,
I'll work on MySQL and FMP in parallel...

Kind regards

I'm in a similar situation. We use FMP6 at work, but on my
own machine I'm still running FMP3 (or is it 4 ?) because the
extra features in the later versions aren't worth the cost of
upgrading to me.

In the last few years, I've written very few new FMP systems,
going from someone who trumpeted its virtues every chance I
got, to someone who used it only with systems that aren't
connected to the Internet all the time. When I can, I've
been writing stuff based around MySQL and PHP instead. This
has a number of advantages, probably the most important of
which is price.

The problem is that you can design an FMP database and any-
one who can understand databases can add another field to it
and make it look reasonably good on the screen. To design
and maintain a system using MySQL and PHP you have to be a
genuine programmer: someone who has the talent and willingness
to learn PHP.
