Hello:

I just replaced my Macsense 1999-vintage router/hub with a brand new
Belkin router/switch. With the Macsense router, I could communicate
with my father using video and audio chat without any problem without
doing any configuration. With the Belkin router (which, like the
Macsense, uses NAT), iChat rarely connects; it will connect once in a
while, but only video, no audio. (Text chat works fine). I've opened
up all the appropriate ports on the router <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93208>,
made certain that UPnP was enabled, and still nothing. I even set up
my Mac as the DMZ client, but that didn't work either.

Of course, it could be some transient network problem. Barring that,
though, it must be a problem with the router. I haven't changed
anything in my setup *except* for the router.

Any thoughts?

I don't know if this helps much but I found that if UPnP is enabled,
mapping the ports makes it not work. That's how it was with my D-Link
router anyway, and I'm not 100% positive either.

Hmmmm. I think I've tried it without ports mapped without and with
uPnP, and with ports mapped with UPnP. I'll try it with ports mapped
without uPnP...

Nope. Still no go. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
