I am a PC person but may need to purchase a Mac to run a specific
application. I need to install an Adaptec 2903B PCI SCSI card and it needs
the following:
64MB RAM (128MB recommended)
Mac OS 8.6 or later

I am thinking of a G3. What is the different between the biege squared off
tower G3 and the blue and white G3? I assume the blue and white G3 is newer
and therefore "better." If this is in an FAQ somewhere, please point me to
it.

try apple support look under specifications otherwise the beige box
had adb ports for keyboard and mouse; serial port for appletalk, printer
modems etc

the B&W had usb, no scsi ata drives

anyway if you are not going to use OSX G3 is too slow then run OS9.2.2

Yes, the B&W G3 is newer and faster. Some even came with an Adaptec
2930U from the factory. Note that the only Adaptec SCSI card that is
cross-platform capable out of the box is the 2906. I've never heard of
the 2903B coming in a Mac-compatible version.

OTOH, if you just need any ol' SCSI, the Beige G3 has a SCSI-2 bus
built-in. It may do what you need with much less hassle.

You can get good links for both machines at lowendmac.com.
