My old Apple 17-inch CRT (40 pound) studio monitor finally gave up the
ghost, with high-voltage zaps every time I fired it up.
I bought a new Sharp 19-inch LCD display (LL-T19D1-B) which weighs
less than half as much and has a beautiful picture. It appears to be
very stable and easy to set up.
The cost ($699) is the same as the Apple 17-inch LCD display.
The Sharp unit has two VGA connectors and one DVI digital input.
I scanned the screen very carefully and found one dark pixel --
fortunately it is way down in the lower left corner.
A very nice display!

That's a great price. Another option is Formac's 20" Oxygen display for
about $1k - native is 1600x1200.

Are there any Formac resellers who ship overseas? -- their distributors
in Australia are stupidly expensive.
For instance, the 2010 Oxygen DVI is $1099 US, which should be about AUD
1900 including our GST, but not including the local distributor's
markup. The local price is AUD 2595, which seems expensive given that
Formac presumably sells to them at a wholesale rate...
