Why don't I hear my startup chimes?
If I reset NVRAM the chimes will be there for a few days.
Then, no more.
Why?
Thanks!

I'm having a similar problem with my G3 B&W/350 (rev. 2, if that matters).
I've pulled the PRAM battery, pushed on both little buttons next to it
(together and individually, for about 30 seconds at a time, if that
matters/helps). Nothing seems to work. My system will chime once (internal
speaker) and boot, but after that, no sound whatsoever! Anywhere!
I mess with the alert sounds and the menu bar just blinks at me, like volume
is muted, but a look at the master volume control shows it isn't. There
isn't even a mute option showing. I slide it up and down... not a single
sound. Nothing!
When I reboot the G3 B&W, I get no chime sound. I have to probably push
those tiny "whatever-they-are-and-do" buttons again in some mystical order
to even get a one-time chime outta my Mac!
ARRRGH!
The battery isn't even plugged in right now and this problem is here. What
could be causing it? MacOS? The firmware? The ROM file?
Someone please let me know ASAP!
Thanks.
