Hi all. I'm trying to install the driver for an Epson Stylus Color
880, but with no luck. The install CD that came with the printer is
for OS 9, so that doesn't work, and when I try the Print Center and
click the 'add' button, I get a listing with my Epson printer (USB) in
the window, but it says 'driver not installed' next to it.

I've tried installing drivers for the Epson printers from the OSX
install CD, but that didn't seem to make any difference. I've tried
going to the Epson web site and they tell me that the drivers for the
Epson Color 880 are included on the OSX install CD. Right.

I'm new to the Mac and I don't know how to proceed from here. What do
I have to do to get a driver installed for this printer? Any help
would be appreciated. Thank you.

The drivers _may_ be included on one of the OS X releases - you'll need
to take a look at the Apple website for your particular model. If it is
included, then you just may have to follow a few installation steps.

If it hasn't been included - if there's no OS X driver - then you'll
probably need to use Gimp as the prievious poster recommended. This
entails you going to a popular Mac site and researching what it's all
about, and how to use it. You can certainly find all you'll need at
VersionTracker.com, as well as SourceForge.net.

Basically, OS X 10.2 supports a Unix API called CUPS - a common prining
service or whatever. If you install the latest CUPS suite, you'll get
drivers for all the Epson printers (and about 150 others). You will
probably also want to install Gimp-Print, which is another piece of the
puzzle that you'l need.

With this stuff, printing will work just fine, but you'll lose color
management. I use an old Espon Stylus 700 with a USB-parallel cable,
and it works fine.

I downloaded and installed Gimp-Print and when I go to the print
center and press the 'add' button, it still lists my Epson Stylus 880
and tells me that the drivers are not installed. So, I basically have
the same problem I had before.
