Hi,

I have a 22" Apple Cinema Display, Apple's DVI to ADC converter, a
PowerMac G4 (the dual 867 Mhz model), a PowerBook G4 (1 Ghz model),
and a 4-port Belkin SOHO DVI/USB switch:

http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=&Section_Id=200305&pcount=&Product_Id=146408

Is this switch compatible with the display and various Macs? I hooked
it up and tried to boot the PowerMac, but the machine only boots for
about 10 seconds and then powers down; the display remains black. When
I press the button on the cinema display, the light comes on for about
2 seconds before fading out again. Then I hooked the monitor up
directly to the PowerMac, booted it, then hooked up the KVM switch
with the machine still running. The computer worked fine for about two
seconds, then both the PowerMac and display shut off at the same time.

Are these products compatible? What am I doing wrong here? Information
regarding people's experiences with DVI KVM switches is sparse at
best, I'm sure because not many people have them, so I'm not having
much luck finding a solution.

Thanks in advance,
John

This is where the problem may lie.... the converter that you are using
is a no no... I attempeted to do the same thing, only in reverse and
was told that would not work because of the digital connection with
the adc....

I was on here looking for an answer to a problem I am having with my
cinema display - I have the
http://www.macmall.com/macmall/shop/detail.asp?dpno=114665
and I keep getting these little flashy pixel like things on my screen
- doesn't matter which port, cable, etc. I have plugged. I have
already sent this back and had it exchanged through MacMall once and
now the problem is worse with this box. I still have yet to find a
solution to my problem, but I hope I was of some assistance to you.

I hope you've found the answer to your question long before now, but
for completeness, the problem is that you need to rip out pin 16 from
the DVI lead connecting your Mac to the KVM.

For a more in-depth answer, please refer to
http://chris.carline.org/000463.html, but that's pretty much all you
need to know if you just want to make the darned thing work!
