Hi all,
is it possible to run win2k or linux on a powermac?
Before you flame me... ;) I run an advertisement business and of course it's
an multiplatform environment. On our server we run win2k and on some
workstations, too. On the graphic workstations we run OS X.
Now I want to buy a G4 powerbook, but it is important for me to have the
possibilty to remote control our network. So, has someone tried to put win2k
on a powerbook? Or Linux?
Thanks for reading.

running Windoze anything is NOT necessary to remote control a windoze
machine.
get and install Timbuktu on both (all) machines.

Well, thank you for the tip... I just didn't think about that solution... :)
But do you know, is it possible to make two or more partitions with
different OS on a Mac/Powerbook?

You may run Windows programs on a Mac by buying Virtual PC. It costs
around a hundred dollars. I'd say you need a 800mhz or greater Mac to
get resonable response out of it. I run VPC on a 600mhz G3 and I find
it sluggish.
You may also connect to another pc and run the pc applications
remotely. Microsoft has a free Windows client. See:

Remote Desktop Connection Client 1.0.1 for Mac allows you to connect
to a Windows-based computer and work with programs and files on that
computer from your Macintosh computer

I agree: Timbuktu is fantastic for remote control.
virtual pc works fine on G4's and will run windows. I don't think
there's any reason to partition the disk for Virtual pc. web/network
access and the like works ok in virtual pc.

You make as many partitions as you want on a Mac, and each can be
bootable. I've had as many as 7 OSes on one Mac before.
You don't need a partition for Virtual PC. It will load Windows from a
disk image.
In case you haven't found out yet, there are Linux distros for PowerPC
that work great on a Mac. LinuxPPC is one. The Navy just bought a bunch
of XServes to run Red Hat for PPC on them. OTOH, most people just use OS
X for their Unix/Linux needs now.

Thanks you all for your suggestions... I completely forgot about
VirtualPC... :)
And the remote control with Timbuktu is interesting, too...
Thanks a lot!
