View Full Version : Desktop icons forget placement

Likely answered some ages ago but....

Mac G3/233 OS 9.2.1

I have my HD partitioned into 4 parts, 1 GB each.

I tend to line these up top right and stacked one on top of the other.

For what ever reason however, the 4 icons forget their placement and
reset to some preferred placement that I cannot track down.

They are not sorting according to any prefs and none of them have any
'labels' assigned.

They are named

HD1-OS
HD2-COMM
HD3-PER
HD4-SPARE

This is the pfererred stacking but when I reboot they always come out
with the bottom two juxtaposed as in

HD1-OS
HD2-COMM
HD4-SPARE
HD3-PER

I've tried rebuilding the desktop. I have not zapped PRAM as I am
trying to avoid that if possible as its not necessary for anything
else.

Suggestions?

<snip details>

If I remember correctly, the "stacking order" has to do with the bus
and the amount of free space left on the drive.

The boot drive will always end up at the top. The order of non-boot
drives then is determined by drive bus and then free space on disk.

Thanks. That explains much. The remaining non-boot partitions show
up in top to bottom order as least, next, and most space available.

Tnanks
