Does anyone have any suggestions for getting a external dvd drive to
mount through firewire.

When I plug it into my G4 firewire port, it gets detected perfectly,
but when I plug it into my G3... nothing.

Ive read some other posts where people have had to ?hot-mount their
drive? to get it to load. I have no idea how to do this as well as
messing with extentions. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thats strange ! Have you checked the firewire port on the G3 ??? Maybe
the port is damaged...
or did the drive come with drivers ??? I know sometimes the device
needs to have a driver to run eg: sometimes La Cie cd-rw drives need
one

If you are using an early OS9 version, the FireWire extensions are not as
complete as in 9.2.2. I normally use 9.0.4 and could not detect an
external hard drive until I replaced the two FireWire extensions with the
9.2.2 versions.
