Got an ipod from a friend(Mac Verison 10 Gig) took it to another
friend that has a Powerbook hooked it up and worked fine. Needed a
new cable though. Now the problem... Bought a PCI firewire card for
my XP machine and a new fire wire cable... hooked it up Xp machine saw
the card and installed drivers... pluged in Ipod screen backlight went
on for a sec and then it went DEAD!.. the ipod started to get warm
pluged in so i unpluged it.. it still got warm for about 20 min.. Now
the Ipod wont do anything even pluged into the wall.. Is there a
volatge difference between Win and Mac ports? does it need to be
formatted to Win to work? at a loss here and don't know what to do.
tried all the reset button try.. going to let it sit overnight and see
what happens.. Any Ideas? Has this happen to anyone?

Not sure about getting a Mac iPod to work for Windows as I've never
tried it, but I know it's definitely possible, and only requires
formatting the disk at worst.

I'll leave it to others to help with that formatting, but for now, try
holding the Menu and Play/Pause buttons at the same time for a few
seconds -- that will reset the iPod, and probably bring it back to
life. Let us know if that works, for starters.

Good luck.
